How we test dog collars

Four things decide whether an ID collar does its job. Here is each one, and how the Namouf collar answers it.

What a good ID collar gets right

1. A plate anyone can read without equipment. A solid brass plate is riveted flat to the strap and engraved with two lines of up to 20 characters. Nothing hangs and nothing jingles, and the fewer characters on a line, the larger each one is cut and the further away it can be read.
2. Sizes rounded inward. The neck ranges are given in inches and rounded toward the smaller number at every boundary. A dog measured at the top of a range is genuinely at the limit, so take the next size up rather than discover it at home.
3. A color is listed only where it really exists. The collar comes in ten colors and the matching set in six. The selector shows only the combinations that can be ordered.
4. Every listed variant has a photo of that variant. Not a swatch, not a recolored render — a photograph of the item in that color, with its own lining visible. Every color in the selector has one.
